In case you missed it, we sent a follow up email yesterday on best practices for effectively cleaning your time clocks. The info below provide detailed, model-specific information for cleaning Kronos time clocks and biometric scanners. The following general information applies to all Kronos time clock and biometric scanner models:

The time clock surfaces, touch screen, display, and keypad areas should be cleaned periodically with a glass cleaner applied to a soft, lint-free cloth.
Biometric scanners should be cleaned periodically with diluted dishwashing liquid applied to a soft, lint-free cloth.

The badge swipe channel on time clocks with integrated barcode badge readers should be cleaned periodically by folding a paper towel sprayed lightly with a glass cleaner over a badge and swiping the badge several times.

Hand sanitizer gel and/or alcohol-based cleaning wipes may be applied to employee hands prior to and/or after using the time clock or biometric scanner, provided hands are dry prior to touching the time clock or scanner. CDC guidelines on hygiene for all employees in the workplace are available here.

IMPORTANT: Please adhere to the following guidelines to avoid damaging your time clocks and biometric scanners.

Do not apply sanitizing gels or wipes directly to the time clock or scanners, as they may cause damage and potentially render the time clock and scanner unusable.
Do not use alcohol-based cleaning products or solvents such as benzene or acetone to clean Kronos time clocks or biometric scanners as they may cause damage and potentially render the time clock and scanner unusable.
Cleaning solutions/liquids should never be sprayed/applied directly on time clock surfaces, touch screens, or biometric scanners. They should be applied first to a soft, lint-free cloth.
Do not use steel wool or any other abrasives, use a soft, lint-free cloth.

InTouch (Kronos):

Synergy (Synel):

• Cleaning instructions can be downloaded here.
• How to disable bio reader: This can be done in WFR clock settings. Change the ‘Validate’ option to “Badge” and enable keyboard entry. This will disable the reader.

Prodigy/Maximus (ATS):
Cleaning instructions: To disinfect the biometric sensor and/or touchscreen on an ATS terminal, ATS recommends using a soft, micro-fiber cloth dampened with 70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) or similar non-abrasive, non-toxic, non-bleach disinfectant safe for LCD screens. Do not over-saturate the touchscreen or biometric sensor. Do NOT directly spray any liquids onto the terminals. How to disable bio reader: This can be done in the clock settings. Change the ‘Validate’ option to “No Validation” and enable keyboard entry. This will disable the reader.

S300/T4 (ZK):

• How to disable bio reader: There is not currently a programmatic way to handle disabling the biometric reader.

HandPunch (RSI):

• Cleaning instructions can be downloaded here.

• From a disease transmission perspective, micro organisms are prevented from spreading by the implementation of a special silver-based material, using BioCote® silver antimicrobial
  technology. More on that here and here.
• How to disable bio reader: There is not currently a programmatic way to handle disabling the biometric reader.

Time Clock Alternatives:
Here are five super effective ways that employees can remain effective and engaged even if they are working remotely.

Web Punch: native to existing Workforce Ready, this allows employees to punch in and out via the web. Optional access profiles allows you to restrict employees’ punch activity from specific locations (IP restrictions). Flexible enough to be configured for on-site or remote work. Mobile App: Workforce Ready’s mobile application allows employees and managers to access their timesheet information. This mobile app can also restrict employee punches based on their location (geofencing). Download the info sheet here.

Timesheet Auto-populate: this option allows the Workforce Ready software to auto-populate your employees’ time sheets based upon their work schedules. This is a great temporary solution. Please open a ticket if you need assistance setting this up.

FaceVerify: our facial recognition time clock that allows employees to punch in and out without having to touch a time clock. Download the info sheet.

Proximity Time Clocks: another option to mitigate the spread of germs. We have a basic proximity time clock as well as our InTouch proximity time clock. Both support badges or key fobs.
